The culotte may be the trickiest trouser, but that hasn't stopped celebrities from pulling it off. Victoria Beckham donned a gray flannel pair in February ahead of her fall 2018 show, then Queen Rania of Jordan stepped out in Simon Miller’s marigold version while visiting a center for youth empowerment. And yesterday in New York City, actress and director Katie Holmes tried her hand at an even more challenging take on the silhouette: a pleated version.
Holmes topped her navy cropped trousers with a pink blouse with ruffle trim around the neck and wrists that had an Elizabethan feel. It was a feminine foil for her jaunty pants, and together the separates made for a modern twist on classic American style.
Amping up the effect were equally polished accessories: Privé Revaux's oversize shades, Céline’s Belt handbag and fancy lizard-skin flats. No doubt the heels Holmes held in her hand (presumably, she wore them wherever she was heading) would add that extra three inches of style.
