Madelaine Petsch, who plays resident mean girl Cheryl Blossom on the CW’s Riverdale, is quickly becoming a style star to watch. Not only is she constantly serving up inspirational outfits on her personal Instagram, she's now adding fashion designer to her repertoire. On Monday, the actress launched her first collaboration with sunglass brand Privé Revaux Eyewear and it's so good that it's almost sold out...in a day.
"I’ve been obsessed with sunglasses since the beginning of time,” she tells Teen Vogue. “Sunglasses were my accessory of choice, and I always had an abundance of pairs. I’m a sunglasses aficionado if I do say so myself.”
Naturally then, Madelaine teamed up with Privé to create a collection of limited-edition sunglasses, and it is everything we could ask heading into the sunniest season of the year. “I designed what I felt like the market lacked,” she said. “If I could think of sunglasses that I really wanted but couldn’t find, that’s what I made.”
Launching today, the Privé Revaux X Madelaine collection includes five frame styles available in a rainbow of colorways. Each frame features rose gold hardware, a little detail that Madelaine did not want to overlook. “I love rose gold — it’s just beautiful and classy and timeless.”
Madelaine drew inspiration for the collection from pretty much everywhere. “I saw a taxi, and I was like, ‘Oh, I love that color yellow,’” she said. “I wanted to make that color yellow in a pair of sunglasses. So being in the world and being somebody who loves sunglasses, that allowed me to know what was missing and what I wanted to have.” If she absolutely had to pick, which pair is her fave? “The Candies,” she said. “At first, I felt like it was a risk to make them because they’re the smaller sunglasses, but they’re actually my favorite. I literally wear them every single day. They make every outfit chic.”
While Madelaine might love the Candies she does think that there’s one person who probably wouldn’t be into them. “The Candies are almost too edgy for [my Riverdale character] Cheryl,” Madelaine explained. “But I definitely think she would wear the black Misters. They’re almost a cat-eye shape, and I actually made them with her in mind.”
The highly anticipated Riverdale musical episode is approaching, and Madelaine confirmed that it’s going to be really good. “I’m beyond excited for everybody to see it,” she said. “It’s by far my favorite episode to have shot and watched. Lately, the main gang hasn’t really been able to be together in episodes because we’ve all got our own things going on. This is a nice way to go back to the characters’ essence.”
And after the musical episode, Madelaine said that viewers can expect life in Riverdale to get even more, well, messy. “There is more blood and, of course, more chaos,” she revealed. “And I think some good resolve. So vague, I know.”
The collection is now available on priverevaux.com for $29.95.
